The Egret Flats Boat
Updated: Mar 26, 2020
In 2016 we bought this 16'7 Egret flats boat from a guide out of Summerland. We chose this boat because it is made of carbon-kevlar and can be up to 250 lbs lighter than other flats boats. This is not only great for better fuel economy, shallower draft, easier polling, and faster holeshots but the greatest advantage is we can use the davit on Catchin' Moments for it to travel with us. We later found out the day before our trip to the Bahamas that our davit needs to be repowered... next trip.

She is outfitted with a 90 HP Mercury, which glides across the flats in as little as nine inches or less. We added a Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor, for days that we are too tired to push pole the skiff. The trolling motor works great with so many different functions like GPS anchor and records tracks. We also added a Minn Kota Talon anchoring system to anchor at the push of a button, up to ten feet deep.

We just upgraded the GPS to the new Lowrance Elite-9 Ti and added the new sonic hub 2 to connect it with the stereo system of JBL speakers. I love how I can run the GPS, bottom reader, and music all from one unit.

This boat has rear underwater lights that look cool at night and we have used them for bully netting lobsters. We have a carbon fiber fishing platform on the bow. A yeti 110 cooler with marine matt on top and sits in front of the center console and can also be used as a casting platform.

Over the past few years of playing around and fishing on this flats, boat has been a blast. It is the smoothest and most dry flats boat I have ever been on. Even on windy days with chop this boat just glides across the water and the bows flare help keep you dry. I am really excited to get more into flats fishing and improve my skills with fly fishing.
